Hey AIESEC!!!

René is here! Well, let me introduce him to you all... He is our CEEDer from Germany and he will basically be here for IS purposes! Also to fulfil his craving for laksa and nasi lemak which has lasted the last one and a half years, since he last visited here!

René will be here only till 16th of April; so don't lose out the chance to talk to him! He is finishing his EB term in his LC in Tübingen, Germany, and he is more than willing to talk to anyone about anything. Being in the EB, work of ER, IS or any other department, life in Germany, life as a CEEDer, and anything non-AIESEC as well.

The LC gathering was scheduled to begin at 2 pm, but before that, a briefing session was held for all the OCPs that was scheduled at 1 pm. Imran conducted this session, briefing project heads on how and where to get information from and which EB members to report their progress to.

The LC gathering was conducted by Shubhangi, our LCP elect or LCP-to-be for academic year 2007-08. Before I explain what we did and how it went, I must say she did an awesome job managing the flow of the LC gathering. There were times when her voice or sentences would trail off, perhaps due to nervousness, but it was hardly noticeable. Of course, it is understandable, since she was one of the junior-most members, and managing all the senior members we look up to must've been hard.

Before anything else, I think the most highlighted issues need to be communicated. Firstly, I don't have an LC NUS t-shirt! So what do we do? AIESEC NUS T-Shirt Design Competition is finally here! So if you have an idea, or any artistic talent, this is the time to see it in action! From what I understand, the only branding guideline you need to follow is that the AIESEC logo should not be tampered with. Everything else goes!

Another issue is the Senior Member Progression Questionnaire that needs to be filled out not only by full and half members alike, but also by EBs. The magic word is "compulsory". Filling this out will help AIESEC track your personal goals and this will also give everyone a chance to do some self-reflection as to what they can do for their personal development in the future. The file has been uploaded on aiesec.net but I'm sure someone will be spamming you all with the files since everyone is so lazy to actually go up to aiesec.net and download the file.

The third issue is the selection of next year's EBs and LC Support Team. This upcoming year, the EB team has been reduced to only 5 members, while a new LC Support Team has been initiated with three main positions: IS Executive, Service Executive and Media Coordinator. The main difference between the two teams is that the LC Support Team would not be a separate department like External Relations or Finance. Again, the applications for this have been uploaded on aiesec.net.

There were various Rewards & Recognition [a.k.a. clapping sessions] where our LC celebrated all the various achievements by our LC in the ongoing AIESEC/academic year.

We started with OGX and congratulated each other on the successes of SNRD [81 applications, woohoo!], SN induction, MAD and SRB. Everyone who had contributed was appreciated and applauded. The main players who were present [Justina, Justine, Hui Ying, Vikram and myself] shared our experiences in handling the projects. Special recognition was given to Justina for leading the OGX team so well, in return for which she held her own Rewards & Recognition later, by giving Certificates of Appreciation that were handed out by Imran. I thought it was a very thoughtful way to give something back to all the people who had contributed to the various projects [completed and ongoing] in one way or the other.

Next in line were the ICX clapping sessions. Visayon and Ashwin had led the team well and the numerous cold-calling sessions and company meetings had resulted in three internships being raised - namely, one with Hewlett Packard and two with Kraft. Song Jie, Ivy and Lianna shared their experiences of raising company meetings with The Japanese School, Integrated Design System Consultancy, and O&L Consultancy, respectively.

Ker Ying, our ER EB had performed for the Friendship Week Idol and made it to the finals. We cheered for him until he sung a few lines for us. Then we cheered some more. [You hear that Vi, he sang for us!]

For those who didn't know already, were shocked to find out that our MC DOPI Adam Cleevely and MC PD Jing Wen had resigned from the national MC team. Culture shock, excessive workload, poor performance and studies were some of the reasons for them to disengage themselves. If I'm not mistaken, Adam will be leaving Singapore on the 18th of February. Jing Wen will be shifting his focus to his studies in NTU.

The project heads updated everyone with what was new with their projects. It's all happening here in NUS! The various OCs currently in action are the Finance Workshop, Recruitment, Study Tour, SEFA Project, Annual Stakeholders' Report, Mentorship Program, MAD, Corporate Breakfast, IS Workshop, The Digital Movement, AGM, and lastly, Corporate Social Responsibility. There has only been one application as far as the Mentorship Program goes [Song Jie], which is very sad, since this is such an amazing program designed to help us reach our full potential. So guys, send in your applications now!

There were also a round of departmental updates from each of ICX, OGX, PD, ER, Finance, Service, IS, and HGS.

After the break we discussed the upcoming events in more detail. These are: SRB for MAD, Prep Sem, Workshop for Branding/Innovation/CSR, AGM, Corporate Breakfast and NEXUS 2007.

Hereafter, Shubhangi did a bit of promotion for International Conferences. I shared my learning experiences from NLDS Singapore and Heroes Conference Malaysia using a slideshow that has been uploaded on aiesec.net if someone would like to see. Daniel shared some photographs from the Spark Conference Thailand. Siew Yik did the same for the Ripples Conference he attended in Hong Kong. Shubhangi shared with us a promotional video for APXLDS that will be held in the second half of March in Hyderabad, India. It's a two-track conference: Asia Pacific Exchange [APX] and Leadership Development Seminar [LDS]. She hopes to go there and would be glad if anyone would join her. Monday, February 12th, she will be purchasing her air-ticket to India for APXLDS. I would've loved to go for it after all the amazing things I have heard about Indian conferences from Indian AIESECers, but like they say: "No money, no honey!"

Lastly, I would just like to say that I'm really looking forward to the next term with Shubhangi as our LCP. Imran has been awesome, but like they say: all good things must come to an end. This is where the birth of a new leader takes place. She has so much passion and energy, and it looks like she wants to use all of it on AIESEC. Lucky, aren't we?
